On today’s episode Nick and Michael be discussing Francis Ford Coppola’s masterpiece of cinema… THE GODFATHER. Directed by Francis Ford Coppola from a screenplay written by Mario Puzo and Coppola based on a novel by the same name written by Mario Puzo. The Godfather tells the story of the Corleone crime family during a ten year period from 1945 to 1955. Don Vito Corleone is the aging patriarch of the family and we follow his quick fall from grace after an attempted hit on his life from a young drug pusher named Sollozzo. While down for the count, Vito’s son Sonny takes over the business for his father as they plot revenge on the men involved with the failed assassination on his father. While this is happening, a war breaks out amongst the crime families, and Vito’s youngest son, Michael, reluctantly becomes involved in the family business. Coppola’s film is heralded as one of the great films of all time and was officially selected to be preserved in the U.S. National Film Registry of the Library of Congress in 1990 for being “culturally, historically and aesthetically significant”.
