Cinepunx Episode 187: THE DUNE EPISODE W/ DAN SCULLY

or, I mean, rather, WELCOME TO A BRAND NEW EPISODE OF CINEPUNX! This is episode 187 despite WHATEVER we may say during the episode itself, We know we are a little behind the zeitgeist on this one as most of the world has moved on to kaiju battles or whatever, BUT we had delays like making time to see the movie and finding a time our man DAN SCULLY could join us! Dan has been on the show prior but in case you do not know him, he is a comedian and podcaster and just a fun guy who Josh sees a LOT of movies with.

Also, despite this episode being late in the national conversation around Dune, I have not been able to stop talking about it and rereading the books and finding interview with Frank Herbert and nerding out on them and just being a bit obsessed. Apologies I guess? I mean the only thing I feel bad about is that most people want to discuss the new film, Dune: Part Two where as I want to discuss DUNE as not even just the books but as a cultural project and it is probably a bit unhinged.

We do our usual gimmicks, Dan is a super great guest, and I reach a level of being a dork that is frankly embarrassing. I am also not sure that all of my thoughts and theories about the book are accurate. I think I come across like I know what I am talking about, but actually my hyper fixation, which is often the case, is fueled by a deep feeling I DO NOT know what I am talking about. The finding a solid take on it all is what fuels the focus, but it might come across in the episode like I think I am an expert, which I do not. The music on this episode is inspired by the topic (Shai Hulud) and by a band that I know Dan likes that I do as well (Kid Dynamite).
