Season 7, Episode 9 (originally released on July 8th, 2023)

On today’s Shame List Picture Show episode, Michael is joined by Josephine Maria Yanasak-Leszczysnki. Josephine is a very talented writer, passionate cinephile, and a huge fan of the science fiction genre and has graciously agreed to join in this discussion about Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY. Considered by many to be one of the greatest films of all time, 2001 revolutionized the craft of filmmaking and practical effects in a way that hadn’t been seen before. While some critics had felt the film was a little too hard to follow upon its release, it took on a whole new life amongst counterculture cinephiles and is still highly regarded today. On this episode we *attempt* to break down the larger themes of 2001, discuss its place in science fiction history, its effect on popular culture, and the best way to experience the film.
