Cinema Smorgasbord – We Do Our Own Stunts – Winners & Sinners (1983)

CUT THE CRAP! We’re post-American excursion and post-Lo Wei scraps and things are about to POP OFF with the first of the Five Lucky Stars series WINNERS & SINNERS starring Sammo Hung, Richard Ng, Charlie Chin, Stanley Fung and John Shum. Oh, and Jackie Chan is here as well, reconnecting with his “big brother” (and Yuen Biao in a tiny part) for the first time in years and transitioning to martial arts/comedy hybrids with higher production values and bigger stunts. This one might lean a bit TOO heavily on the comedy, but you get roller skating stunts, car stunts, and some dynamite action to whet your appetite for what’s to come. Enjoy!

Cinema Smorgasbord – Wild in the Streets – Caliber 9 (1972)

WILD IN THE STREETS returns with the first entry in Fernando Di Leo’s Milieu Trilogy: the hard hitting 1972 classic CALIBER 9 (aka MILANO CALIBRO 9)! Featuring Gastone Moschin as Ugo Piazza, a small time gangster fresh out of jail being hunted down by his former associates for stealing $300,000 that he swears he doesn’t have, it’s tough as nails and features a memorable jazz-flute tinged score by Luis Enríquez Bacalov and the Italian progressive rock group Osanna. It also features the great Mario Adorf in a gloriously unhinged performance as Rocco. CHECK IT OUT!

Cinema Smorgasbord – Wild in the Streets – Le Marginal (1983)

We’re getting WILD IN THE STREETS with Jean-Paul Belmondo in the 1983 action film LE MARGINAL (aka THE OUTSIDER)! Featuring Belmondo as Commissioner Philippe Jordan, a tough as nails cop who – wait for it – plays by his own rules, and those rules involve running through traffic, jumping out of helicopters, and just straight up murdering dudes with his car! It’s good, clean, semi-fascistic fun and our hosts feel a bit guilty about how much fun it is. Oh well! Enjoy!

Cinema Smorgasbord – How Do You Do, Fellow Kids? – Reservoir Dogs (1992)

We’ve waited a long time to get into it, but on this episode of HOW DO YOU DO, FELLOW KIDS? we’re finally checking out Quentin Tarantino’s breakthrough 1992 crime thriller RESERVOIR DOGS, starring Harvey Keitel, Michael, Madsen, Tim Roth, Chris Penn, and – of course – Steve Buscemi as Mr. Pink. We discuss its triumphs and controversies, as well as how our feelings on the film – and Tarantino – have changed over the past thirty years. We also discuss Pete Davidson’s new sitcom Bupkis, the live action Little Mermaid and SO MUCH MORE. Check it out!

Cinema Smorgasbord – George Kennedy is my Copilot – Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (1974)

We’re getting heist-y on a brand new episode of GEORGE KENNEDY IS MY COPILOT with Michael Cimino’s terrific buddy crime comedy THUNDERBOLT AND LIGHTFOOT from 1974! Clint Eastwood and a (shockingly handsome) Jeff Bridges grow a friendship over their shared love of women and thievery, with Geoffrey Lewis and – wait for it – George Kennedy on their tails, until the crew get together to plan a big ol’ robbery and run off into the sunset. We chat about Jeff Bridges’ ice cream technique, Conan O’Brien, Dub Taylor, Preacher Eastwood and SO MUCH MORE. Check it out!

Cinema Smorgasbord – Bartel Me Something Good – Not For Publication (1984)

On this episode of Bartel Me Something good we’re checking out Paul Bartel’s inauspicious 1984 screwball comedy NOT FOR PUBLICATION, starring Nancy Allen, David Naughton and Laurence Luckinbill! Allen plays Lois Thornedyke, a tabloid reporter aiming to go clean, while simultaneously working for the mayor of New York (Luckinbill) who is – wait for it – trying to get rid of “porno papers”, like the one she’s working at! Naughton plays a hapless bird photographer she hires to help with both jobs. There’s animal-themed musical numbers, (attempted) murder, and.. not much more. We also discuss a clip of Sandra Bernhard interviewing Paul Bartel on Reel Wild Cinema. CHECK IT OUT!

Cinema Smorgasbord – You Don’t Know Dick – Miami Vice (Season 2, Episode 19) The Fix (1986)

In 1986, Dick Miller directed an episode of the second season of the massively popular TV series MIAMI VICE called “The Fix” and on this episode of YOU DON’T KNOW DICK, we’re going to watch it! Thankfully we have author and Miami Vice aficionado Sarah Kurchak joining us to walk us through the world of Crockett & Tubbs, the corrupt world in which they live, and this episode, which features guest stars Harvey Fierstein, Michael Richards, and NBA hall-of-famer Bill Russell! CHECK IT OUT!
