James Harris is a horror fan, writer, and podcaster. He is well known for his website docterror.com, and his podcast Horror Sexy. He has been a long time supporter of Exhumed Films, and is, as far as we know, the only person to have a 24 Hour Horror-Thon tattoo. James is also sick. In December 2015 he was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma. He has undergone surgery and chemo, and is still fighting a challenging fight. While he has been sick, James has been very open about his struggle, the highs and lows, and even talked about horror as a metaphor for his sickness. Inspired by his determination, and wanting to create an opportunity for the horror community to support him, Exhumed Films held a benefit double feature screening of KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE and DEADLY SPAWN at International House in Philadelphia, and at that event we were honored to get a chance to sit down and talk to James. In addition there was a massive auction and raffle, and they were able to raise significant funds for James because of the generosity of the horror community.
Thanks immediately to Joseph Gervasi for connecting us with James and for basically hosting this conversation. Go listen to Joseph’s show LOUD! FAST! PHILLY! Immediately. More than that though thanks to James for sharing some of his story with us and for advocating in many ways for folks facing cancer everywhere. We have been given many great opportunities to talk to awesome people (many of which solely because of Joseph btw) but never before have I felt so honored to talk to someone. Don’t get it wrong, James is just a guy who love horror, his family, and who is facing a tough situation. Yet, he is so inspiring and insightful about his condition, we have never before felt so blessed to share a story. James is also funny, so don’t expect a dour mediation on the nature of sickness either. This was a fun conversation, it is was also honest though and it was completely lacking in pretense for which we cannot thank James enough. Just in being who he is he has given us, both Cinepunx and James you who check this out a real gift. Enjoy the episode, check out James projects, and throw Exhumed some support because they are exactly the kind of stand up gentleman who would have an event like this.
