The Shame List Picture Show – Patreon Bonus – Cage is the Rage #2

Hello ShameListeners, we’re back with another bonus episode for you! Originally planned to be a Patreon exclusive, we’ve decided to give a couple away for FREE! Our new bonus show is called “Cage is the Rage” and on this Michael and Amanda will attempt to watch every single Nic Cage movie in chronological order.

On this episode we will be discussing Francis Ford Coppola’s RUMBLE FISH (1983) and Richard Benjamin’s RACING WITH THE MOON (1984)

Cinema Smorgasbord – Whatever Happened to Vic Diaz? – The Beast of the Yellow Night (1971)

We’re back wondering WHATEVER HAPPENED TO VIC DIAZ? and this time we’re looking at one of Vic’s most memorable and outstanding roles, playing THE DEVIL in Eddie Romero’s 1971 creature feature THE BEAST OF THE YELLOW NIGHT. Diaz’s Satan has brought John Ashley’s Joseph Langdon back to life to do his evil bidding, and also every so often he turns into a strange Wolfman-esque creature who lusts for blood. HUMAN BLOOD! Vic Diaz chews scenery while Ashley chews on the many unfortunates who get in his way, while our hosts tackle with their love for monster movies, the film’s unique religious themes and SO MUCH MORE. Check it out!

Cinema Smorgasbord – Praising Kane – Pandemonium (1982)

LISTEN UP, JERKS. On this episode of PRAISING KANE we’re bringing the funny with the 1982 horror spoof PANDEMONIUM from director Alfred Sole (ALICE SWEET ALICE). Starring Tom Smothers as the intrepid Mountie Cooper (accompanied by Paul Reubens as Johnson), the gag-filled comedy follows a group of students at a cheerleading camp being slaughtered by a mysterious killer, including Carol Kane as the CARRIE-like Candy. We also discuss the recent passing of Richard Belzer (and how Carol Kane connects to his most famous character), as well as all the most recent Carol Kane news. ENJOY!

Cinema Smorgasbord – You Don’t Know Dick – White Line Fever (1975)

Get higher baby! On a brand new You Don’t Know Dick we’re joined by That Shelf’s Will Perkins to discuss Jonathan Kaplan’s 1975 trucker action film WHITE LINE FEVER starring Jan Michael Vincent, Slim Pickens, Kay Lenz, L.Q. Jones, and Dick Miller as the uniquely named “Birdie” Corman. The boys discuss left-leaning action films, the TRUCKER’S CODE, whether Big Trouble in Little China’s Jack Burton would join the “Freedom Convoy” and SO MUCH MORE (including the life and career of beloved character actor Dick Miller). Check it out!

Cinema Smorgasbord – We Do Our Own Stunts – Dragon Fist (1979)

After a lengthy, contentious working relationship, Jackie Chan’s time with Lo Wei finally comes to an end (sort of!) with 1979’s DRAGON FIST, a film that had been sitting on the shelf since well before Jackie’s SNAKE IN THE EAGLE’S SHADOW kung-fu breakthrough. The film features a very stoic Jackie attempting to get revenge for his master’s death, which all sounds awfully standard, but the plot gets a lot more twisty as it goes, including Jackie reluctantly working for a group of bad guys before going BER-ZERK in the final ten minutes. We also chat about some of Jackie’s complications with trying to get out of his contract, and his upcoming excursion to America. CHECK IT OUT!

Cinema Smorgasbord – Bartel Me Something Good – Eating Raoul (1982)

On this episode of Bartel Me Something Good we’ve reached Paul Bartel’s Criterion Collected classic EATING RAOUL featuring Mary Woronov, Robert Beltran and Paul Bartel himself as Paul Bland. A darkly comedic social satire (/w cannibalism), it remains a gem in the Bartel filmography, and we’re delighted to be joined by EATING RAOUL’s editor Alan Toomayan to discuss his work on Bartel’s films, including LUST IN THE DUST and SCENES FROM THE CLASS STRUGGLE IN BEVERLY HILLS. Alan also regales us with stories of his early work with New World Pictures, the guerilla filmmaking that went into Eating Raoul’s production, and his transition to becoming an editor of film trailers and featurettes. CHECK IT OUT!

Cinema Smorgasbord – Eric Roberts is the Man – Blackbird (2018/2022)

After an interminable wait, “Lord of the Dance” Michael Flatley’s passion/vanity spy thriller BLACKBIRD is FINALLY HERE, and it’s really something! On this episode of ERITFM we’re joined by writer/podcaster Matti Price to discuss the ins and outs of Flatley’s folly, including a villainous turn from Eric Roberts is an unrepentant weapons dealer who is – shock – also engaged to Flatley’s old flame. Yep, it’s a remake of CASABLANCA, except terrible! All this and all the latest Eric Roberts news and tweets. Can you RISK missing it?

Cinema Smorgasbord – Praising Kane – Laverne & Shirley (Season 8, Episode 8) & Strong Medicine (1981)

On this episode of PRAISING KANE we’re once again doubling up, starting with an episode of the eighth season of LAVERNE & SHIRLEY which is without Shirley, Lenny or Squiggy.. but we do have dog murder, Charles Fleischer and not much else, except Carol Kane as a streetwise fortune teller. We follow that with the 1981 film adaptation of Richard Foreman’s avant-garde play STRONG MEDICINE, steeped in the subject matter championed by his Ontological-Hysteric Theater. Hear us struggle with material we’re woefully out of step with! All that and the latest Carol Kane news. CHECK IT OUT.
