COMICS! WE LOVE ‘EM! And so does Alejandro Jodorowsky, and on this episode of the world’s finest Jodorowsky-themed podcast JodoWOWsky we’re going deep on three of Jodo’s most impressive comic works of the 90s and 2000s. We start by checking out his post-Incal collaboration with the legendary Jean “Moebius” Giraud: the mind-bending satire MADWOMAN OF THE SACRED HEART! Next up are two collaborations with the ALSO legendary François Boucq, starting with his epic violent western BOUNCER, and finishing with the playful collection of fables THE SHADOW’S TREASURE. All that and all of the latest Jodorowsky news. Who could ask for anything more? Enjoy!

Cinema Smorgasbord – JodoWOWsky Part 15 – The Dance of Reality (2013)

After a 23-year hiatus away from directing (and with an assist from the Jodorowsky’s Dune documentary) Alejandro Jodorowsky returned to filmmaking with the autobiographical fantasy (based on his own book) THE DANCE OF REALITY in 2013. On this episode of JodoWOWsky we break down all the latest Jodorowsky news (including Julia’s experience attending some recent screenings with Jodo himself!), take a look at the Adan Jodorowsky-directed short film THE VOICE THIEF (based on his father’s short story) and – of course – going deep on THE DANCE OF REALITY!

Cinema Smorgasbord – JodoWOWsky Part 14 – The Technopriests (1998-2006)

It’s the long awaited return of JodoWOWsky and on this episode we’re headed back to the comic book Jodoverse with the eight-volume Incal spin-off THE TECHNOPRIESTS, originally published from 1998 until 2006. Written by Jodorowsky with art from the immortal Zoran Janjetov, with color from Fred Beltran it follows the journey of Albino, the Supreme Technopriest, and his journey through the Technopriest hierarchy which – surprise – becomes a galaxy-spanning epic of mind-melting proportions. We also with Alejandro Jodorowsky a very happy 95th birthday and take a look at all the latest Jodorowsky news. JOIN US!

JodoWOWsky returns with a hodge-podge of Alejandro Jodorowsky projects, including some acting roles from the early 2000s, a television adaptation of one his Métal hurlant comics, and a somewhat bizarre credit for the 2003 French computer animated feature KAENA: THE PROPHECY! We investigate what all of this could mean, while digging deep on all the latest Jodorowsky news. CHECK IT OUT!

JodoWOWsky returns with a trifecta of Alejandro Jodorowsky-penned comic work from the 1990s, starting with the fantastical (and very odd) MOON FACE from 1992 (illustrated by François Boucq), then moving into the playfully erotic Angel Claws from 1994 (with explicit illustrations by Jean “Moebius” Giraud), and finishing with the western-tinged action-filled redemption tale Son of the Gun from 1995 (illustrated by Georges Bess). We also check out all the latest Alejandro Jodorowsky news, as well as the recent music video by Adanowsky (with Beck) for the song “Chain Reactionary”, directed by Michel Gondry. Check it out!

Cinema Smorgasbord – JodoWOWsky Part 11 – The Jodorowsky Constellation (1994)

JodoWOWsky returns with a deep dive on Louis Mouchet’s career-spanning Alejandro Jodorowsky documentary THE JODOROWSKY CONSTELLATION from 1994, featuring interviews with legendary mime Marcel Marceau, the incredible Jean ‘Moebius’ Giraud, and musician Peter Gabriel! The documentary also features a lengthy exhibition of Jodorowsky’s psychomagic, with the subject being  Mouchet himself! We also discuss Jodorowsky’s recent 94th birthday, an Adanowsky (with Karen O from The Yeah Yeah Yeahs) music video featuring Brontis Jodorowsky, Frank Pavich’s New York Times article on AI image generation, and so much more. CHECK IT OUT!

Cinema Smorgasbord – JodoWOWsky Part 9 – The Rainbow Thief (1990)

After the worldwide success of SANTA SANGRE, Jodorowsky was inundated with offers to make horror films, but he found himself more interested in – for the first time – working with a large budget and big stars. His opportunity came in the form of producer Alexander Salkind, who approached Jodo to direct his wife script for a project called THE RAINBOW THIEF, starring Omar Sharif, Peter O’Toole and Christopher Lee. The result (nearly) ended Alejandro Jodorowsky’s directing career, with the film barely being release before being dumped onto VHS in the US four years after its completion. But is the final result truly disaster? On this episode of JODOWOWSKY we’re breaking down the complicated history and tangled legacy of THE RAINBOW THIEF and asking what the heck went wrong. We also pay tribute to the late Cristóbal Jodorowsky, and discuss Jonathan Ross’s 1990 episode of his program For One Week Only devoted to Jodorowsky. Check it out!

Cinema Smorgasbord – JodoWOWsky Part 8 – Santa Sangre (1989)

Alejandro Jodorowsky returns to filmmaking after a nearly ten year absence with the surreal horror of 1989’s SANTA SANGRE. Filled with wild, controversial imagery, our JodoWOWsky hosts trace its inception, the relationship between Jodorowsky and producer Claudio Argento, the involvement of four of the Jodorowsky children in the production, the taxing filmmaking process, the suggested involvement of Jack Nicholson and Anjelica Huston and SO MUCH MORE. We also discuss the feature length SANTA SANGRE documentary FORGET EVERYTHING YOU HAVE EVER SEEN: THE WORLD OF SANTA SANGRE from 2011, which brings much of the cast and crew together to recount some truly strange stories about the film’s inception and legacy. All this and the latest Jodorowsky news, so CHECK IT OUT!

Cinema Smorgasbord – JodoWOWsky Part 7 – The Eyes of the Cat (1978), The Jealous God (1985) and The Magical Twins (1987)

It’s an ALL COMICS episode of JodoWOWsky with our hosts examining three Alejandro Jodorowsky graphic novel collaborations throughout the late 70s and 80s. We start with a deep dive into THE EYES OF THE CAT, the (sorta!) first collaboration between Jodorowsky and the legendary Moebius from 1978. It’s gorgeous, highly experimental, and we even discuss a recent attempt to make a videogame adaptation! Then we move on to the often baffling THE JEALOUS GOD, a collaboration between Jodorowsky and Silvio Cadelo first published in Heavy Metal in 1985. And finally we finish with Jodorowsky’s first young adult comic THE MAGICAL TWINS with his frequent collaborator Georges Bess, first published in 1987. All this and the latest Jodorowsky news.
