Cinepocalypse just announced their 2017 lineup, and boy, it is a doozy! The festival kicks off November 2 at Chicago’s prestigious Music Box Theatre, with screenings and other events wrapping up on November 9. Renowned screenwriter Simon Barrett (You’re Next, The Guest, Blair Witch) will be hosting the event in its entirety.

Included in the festival are several highly anticipated screenings, including the Illinois premiere of Tyler MacIntyre’s reinventive slasher, Tragedy Girls (covered here by our very own Billy Ray Brewton), the U.S. premiere of Ted Geoghegan’s (We Are Still Here) historic revenge epic Mohawk, and the 40th Anniversary screening of the newly-discovered uncut 35mm Italian print of Suspiria. And those are just what’s in the First Wave announcement.

Also on board for the festival will be writer/director Joe Carnahan (The Grey, Smokin’ Aces, The A-Team), who is curating a special program of 35mm repertory films titled “Blood, Guts, Bullets, and Octane.” Another exciting event is The Cinepocalypse Midnight Movie Challenge, where Cinepocalypse organizers have dared the production team at Boulderlight Pictures to write, produce, and film a feature-length midnight movie between the time of press release and premiere at the festival.

But you, dear friends of our CINEPUNX family, can share in our excitement for one event in particular: present for the festival will be none other than cult favorite and GOAT actor Eric Roberts, who will be joining Doug Tilley and Liam O’Donnell for a live taping of their lauded podcast, Eric Roberts Is The Fucking Man. When reached for comment, co-host and fearless Cinepunx leader O’Donnell said, “I cannot even fathom this shit is real, I am in actual shock.” We’re shocked, too – in the best, most anticipatory way possible. Go get ‘em, boys!
